Cieza peach blossom: when to go, the best viewpoints and the blossom greenway
The orchards around Cieza flower in February and March, 9 minutes from our lodges in Abarán.
If you have seen photographs of pink fields in Murcia, they were almost certainly taken here. Every late winter, thousands of hectares of fruit trees around Cieza, mostly peaches but also plums and apricots, burst into flower at once.
It is beautiful, and it is also very real: working orchards, irrigation channels, farm tracks and the Segura valley as a backdrop. Cieza sits at the northern gateway to the Ricote Valley, and we live 9 minutes away in Abarán, so every year we watch the trees turn and send our guests out to see them.
Here is how to time your visit, where the best views are, the walk and cycle route through the orchards, how to behave among the fields and where to stay.
The essentials in 30 seconds
- When: February and March. The official Floración programme ran from 12 February to 22 March in 2026; peak bloom usually falls between late February and mid-March.
- Where: the orchards west of Cieza, along the RM-B19 road towards Calasparra, and the signed viewpoints: La Macetúa, El Olmico, La Torre and El Soto de la Zarzuela.
- Best walk or ride: the Vía Verde de la Floración, almost 10 km on an old railway line through the fields.
- Cost: free. You can visit on your own, no tour needed.
- Plan: two days if you can: one for the blossom, one for the waterwheels and villages of the Ricote Valley.
What the Cieza blossom is, and why people come back
Cieza lives off its stone fruit. When the trees flower, the whole plain of the Segura around the town turns pink and white, framed by bare grey mountains. Seen from a viewpoint, the colour runs unbroken for kilometres; walk into it and you hear the bees and the water in the channels.
The town celebrates it with the Floración, a programme of guided walks to the viewpoints, concerts, painting competitions and food events that runs for several weeks. Entry to the fields and viewpoints is free.
When is the Cieza blossom? Timing the peak
The official programme for 2026 ran from 12 February to 22 March. The actual peak depends on the weather that year: as a rule of thumb, your best chance is between late February and mid-March, and a warm or cold spell can move it by a week either way.
How to get it right without guessing:
- Keep a few days' margin if you can, rather than fixing a single day months ahead.
- Choose wide, continuous landscapes such as the RM-B19 corridor: even if some orchards are ahead and others behind, the overall view works.
- Go early or late. Low light brings out the pink and avoids the flat midday sun, and you miss the weekend crowds.
For visitors from northern Europe the timing is a gift: February and March are mild and often sunny here, good weather for walking while it is still winter at home.

These are the places we send our guests to, with the driving time from Áureo Natura:
| Place | Why go | From Áureo |
|---|---|---|
| RM-B19 road (Cieza to Calasparra) | The most reliable corridor for wide views of blossom | from 15 min |
| El Olmico viewpoint | The closest to town, easy to fit in | 21 min · 15.6 km |
| El Soto de la Zarzuela | Orchards down by the river | 24 min · 19.3 km |
| La Macetúa viewpoint | On a small hill by the old station, on the greenway | 30 min · 22.1 km |
Road times calculated with OpenStreetMap from Áureo Natura (Abarán), without traffic. During the blossom, country lanes can be busy at weekends.
The RM-B19 road: the most reliable corridor
If you only have a morning, this is your best bet: the widest stretches of blossom are usually around the RM-B19 between Cieza and Calasparra, with named spots such as La Macetúa, El Horno, La Parra and El Olmico along the way.
La Macetúa viewpoint
Opposite the old railway station, on top of a small hill, La Macetúa is one of the best places to take in the full sweep of the fields. It sits on the greenway, so it pairs well with a walk.
El Olmico viewpoint: the closest to town
Short on time, or with children in the back? El Olmico is the easiest to fit in because it is close to Cieza.
La Torre and El Soto de la Zarzuela
On the other side of the river, La Torre gives panoramas with the Segura in the foreground and fields behind. El Soto de la Zarzuela takes you down among the riverside orchards.
Walking, cycling and driving through the blossom
The Vía Verde de la Floración
If you want to be inside the blossom rather than photographing it from the road, this greenway is the one:
- A walking and cycling route of almost 10 km.
- It follows the old railway line from Cieza towards Calasparra.
- Flat and easy, with the La Macetúa viewpoint along the way.
Do it at sunrise or late afternoon: the light is softer and the colour much stronger.
By car, at your own pace
You can easily do it on your own. Drive the RM-B19 area and turn into the farm tracks with care, looking for high points and open views. The Floración programme also includes guided walks to the viewpoints if you would like someone to explain the orchards.
Blossom etiquette: these are working farms
The fields are private and people are working in them. A few simple rules:
- Do not touch the flowers: each one is a future peach.
- Do not break off branches, however tempting the photo.
- Drive slowly on the farm tracks.
- Never park across field entrances: tractors need to get in and out.
Make it two days: blossom and the Ricote Valley
Cieza is the gateway to the Ricote Valley, so the blossom pairs naturally with the valley. Our suggestion:
- Sunrise on the greenway or at La Macetúa.
- Midday drive along the RM-B19 and lunch in Cieza.
- Back to the lodge, an hour in the spa and dinner without driving.
- The Waterwheel Route in Abarán, 6 minutes away.
- Blanca, Ojós and the Solvente viewpoint.
- Lunch in Ricote, then home along the river.
Getting to Cieza for the blossom
Cieza is on the A-30 motorway between Murcia and Albacete. From Region of Murcia International Airport (Corvera) to Abarán is 64 km, about 50 minutes; from Alicante–Elche airport, 104 km, about an hour and a quarter. Cieza is 9 minutes further on. Directions to us are on our how to get here page.
